Thank you to everyone who has supported TangoSpace in 2011. We finished off the year with a fantastic milonga on the weekend which we enjoyed enormously. It is with great regret that we have to announce that our milonga this Saturday has been canceled. Due to circumstances beyond our control our venue was double booked and we unfortunately drew the short straw. We thank everyone who emailed in to let us know you were coming. Tango got a big boost in Perth last week when Leanne from TangoSpace had the privilege of performing a short tango to Sting's "When we Dance" in front of 12000 people at his 'Symphonicity' concert at the Sandalford Winery on Saturday the 22nd January 2011. Leanne was partnered by the lovely Stephane Hamel who has been touring with the show as a sound technician and tango dancer. Hopefully, this will stimulate some extra interest in tango for our local community and others the world over as Sting continues his tour.

Australia Day

Australia Day is celebrated on the 26th of January - which is also a Wednesday this year. We have been asked by the Managers of the Hall and in the interests of public safety and security, to not run our practica on that evening, due to the large crowds that will gather on the banks of the Swan River to catch a glimpse of the Skyworks. So there will be no TangoSpace practica on Wednesday the 26th. However, we will be back on deck the following Wednesday the 2nd of February.

Just when we were hoping to get back into a steady routine, a spanner has been thrown into the works. For the next two weeks the TangoSpace practica will not be on. There will be maintenance on the Waylen Bay Hall and we will not be able to have access to the space. TangoSpace has decided to have a short break from running the milonga for the month of April. So, on April the 10th 2010 we will not be holding our milonga at The Strand in Applecross. Do not be dismayed, there will be plenty of tango for you. Due to Easter, the JRDA milonga will instead be running on the 10th April from 9:00pm - 2:00am, and the following week the 17th April 2010 will see the Perth Tango Club celebrate its fifth anniversary with a free milonga for members. TangoSpace is pleased to announce Daniel from Argentina and Aja from the UK will be in Perth during March 2010 to offer a series of workshops, concepts and private lessons to Perth tango dancers. These young and energetic dancers are part of a new generation of tango instructors who are expert in a range of traditional and contemporary tango techniques. Both Daniel and Aja have been educated by some of the current maestros touring Europe and Argentine including Gustavo Naveira and Giselle-Anne, Cecilia Gonzalez and Pablo Inza. 2009 has passed quickly and we hope everyone is enjoying the festivities of this time of year. TangoSpace had a wonderful Christmas milonga with fantastic dances and great company. We hope to continue this tradition in 2010. TangoSpace Wednesday practicas are only on for two more weeks in December. A Big Week of Tango

We've had a very busy week in tango. Thanks to everyone who did lessons with Lucia Mazer. It was wonderful to see you making use of her short visit to Perth. Hopefully when she comes back next time, we'll be able to make it an even bigger event. Thanks also to everyone who came to our milonga on the weekend. The weather was nasty, but you all showed up anyway, proving that tango is for the dedicated. We had a great time and feel privileged that you helped us achieve such a good night. Our next mini-milonga is only two weeks away on July 11th 2009. Too much tango is never enough. See you there.

The month of May is offering up some challenges for scheduling. Our mini-milonga is being moved, yet again, back one week to the 23rd May 2009. Let's hope this one holds. Fingers crossed. June is also looking to be an interesting month for movement in our calendar. We will try not to disrupt or alter too many plans. We thank you for your patience during this unstable period in our timetabling. Hopefully it will all smooth out soon enough. Finally, a big welcome to our first 'follower' Angelina. Great to have you on-board.

May Update

We're barely into April. But there's so much going on we need a May update to keep track of TangoSpace movements. JRDA have announced that Mario and Anabella will be visiting Perth from the 6th to the 12th May 2009. So, once again TangoSpace will be moving its monthly mini-milonga to the third Saturday in May which will be the 16th. We will be attending workshops, private lessons and performances so we are going to be way too occupied while Mario and Anabella are here. 2009 seems to be a busy year and we thank you for your patience in following our seemingly ever-changing schedule. June will also see us reorganising times and events so stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

Tangocamp 2009

Tangocamp is a series of tango festivals held across Europe in cities including Rome: Italy, Evia Island: Greece, Tylosand: Sweden, and Dusseldorf: Germany. This year they are running special seminars with Gustavo Naveira and Giselle-Anne to accompany the major festival events. There are currently about 700 participants enrolled in Tangocamp across Europe and about 100 people are looking for a leader or follower to partner them in classes/workshops. Due to a scheduling conflict with the Scouts at The Strand in Applecross, we will not be able to host our mini-milonga on the second Saturday of March - the 14th. We have been working to clarify our 2009 start-dates and have settled on some synergetic terrain regarding the timing of our events. We seem to be kicking off the year with a focus on the number 14. Perhaps this is a good omen for the productive and creative tango coming in 2009. Our first practica for 2009 will be held on Wednesday the 14th January 2009. The first TangoSpace mini-milonga for 2009 will be on Saturday the 14th February 2009 - Valentines Day. We are looking forward to an insightful and innovative 2009.

January 2009 Update

Right. We've had an update regarding access to the hall at The Strand in Applecross. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get in there at all for the first couple of weeks of January. At this stage it looks like we will not be able to start up the Wednesday night practicas until either the 14th or 21st of Jan 2009. We're currently working on clarifying when we can get back on the floor again. Hopefully it will be a nice sexy new floor when we do. So, thanks for your patience with all this and we will keep updating you as we get more information. In the mean time, have a great New Years Eve and happy tangoing.

December 2008 - January 2009

TangoSpace is negotiating the celebratory season at the moment. We run our usual Practica on Wednesday @ The Strand in Applecross 7:45pm - 10:00pm $7.00 entry for the next two Wednesdays. Yes, that includes Christmas Eve. We will not be running on New Years Eve - December 31 2008. In January 2009 we will not be holding our second Saturday mini-milonga. The Hall will be having its floor refinished and we will not be able to access it for a few days - which unfortunately coincides with our milonga night. However, our practica on Wednesdays will not be disturbed. We are hoping that the floor will be restored to its former condition. The organisers for the hall hire are aware of the slippery nature of the floor - as other groups using it have also complained - so hopefully they will be consulting the right experts to refinish it in a suitable manner for dancers. Fingers crossed they get it right as they will not let us put any wax down to slow it down.

Our small dancing community has some big ideas about tango and we hope to explore these concepts on the dance floor, in workshops, and online.
